Open Competition Information

Important Notice for 2027 Open Competitions: From 1 January 2027, competitors must have returned a minimum of three qualifying competition scores within the previous 12 months to be eligible for prizes. In addition, prize eligibility will be restricted to players who are members of affiliated golf clubs. All golfers holding a recognised WHS Handicap Index remain welcome to participate in our Open Competitions.

Open Competition Entry Conditions (Effective from 1 January 2027)

To ensure fairness for all competitors and to maintain the integrity of handicap competitions, the following conditions will apply to all Open Competitions at Dumfries & County Golf Club from 2027 onwards.

Handicap Requirement

All entrants must hold a current and valid World Handicap System (WHS) Handicap Index.

This includes handicaps administered through:

• Membership of an affiliated golf club
• Scottish Golf OpenPlay
• England Golf iGolf
• Wales Golf Flexi Golf
• Golf Ireland iGolf
• Any other recognised national golf union handicap scheme operating under the WHS

Competitive Score Requirement

To be eligible for prizes, competitors must have returned a minimum of three qualifying competition scores within the previous 12 months.

The Competition Committee reserves the right to verify a player’s handicap record and eligibility before prizes are awarded.

Prize Eligibility

Open Competitions are open to all golfers holding a recognised WHS Handicap Index.

However, from 2027 onwards, eligibility for prizes, vouchers, trophies and commemorative awards will be restricted to members of affiliated golf clubs.

Players whose handicap is administered through OpenPlay, iGolf, Flexi Golf or any similar independent golfer scheme are welcome to enter, compete and return a score, but will not be eligible to receive prizes.

Competition Results

All entrants will:

• Appear in the competition results
• Have their score processed for handicap purposes where applicable
• Be included in the overall competition standings

Where an ineligible player records a prize-winning score, the prize will be awarded to the next eligible competitor.

General Conditions

Entry to an Open Competition constitutes acceptance of these conditions.

The decision of the Competition Committee regarding handicap eligibility, qualifying scores and prize allocation shall be final.

Dress Code

All players and visitors are kindly asked to observe the Club’s dress code.
The Club reserves the right to deny access to the Course or Clubhouse should individuals fail to comply with the dress code, standard courtesies, or the Rules of Golf.

Payment

Payment is required at the time of booking.
A tee time is not considered confirmed until full payment has been received.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations can be made by contacting the relevant Match Secretary:

• Gents: gents.matchsec@thecounty.co.uk
• Ladies: ladies.matchsec@thecounty.co.uk

More than 1 week before play:
A full refund will be issued.

Less than 1 week before play:
No refund will be issued unless there are exceptional mitigating circumstances, supported by evidence when requested.

Failure to cancel:
If you do not cancel your booking in accordance with this policy before your tee time, no refund will be provided.

** Texas Scramble Sunday 6th July entry criteria; Team must conform to handicap criteria on date of entry ie. sum of lowest two handicap index must be 10+ and sum of team handicap index must be 40+.

The Johnstone Cup and Evergreen Trophy will be played simultaneously for the first time in 2027, bringing together two competitions in a single Mixed Greensomes event.

The pair returning the best overall score will win the Johnstone Cup, while the Evergreen Trophy will be awarded to the leading pair in which both players are aged 60 and over.
