Weather Conditions
Recent weeks have brought persistent rainfall, leading to saturated ground conditions across the course. The ongoing wet weather has posed challenges for turf health and routine maintenance, particularly in low-lying areas where water naturally collects.
Greens Maintenance
To support the greens through the winter period, the team has applied a winter fertiliser along with iron to maintain plant health during the prolonged rainfall. As sand-based greens tend to lose nutrients more quickly than soil-based surfaces, they require closer monitoring and more frequent applications.
Deep tining was also completed last week, a vital operation that enhances air and water movement through the rootzone. This helps alleviate compaction, improves drainage, and encourages stronger root development.
Bunker Renovation Works
Bunker refurbishment is now underway at the 6th hole. This represents a change from the originally planned work at the 4th, prompted by very wet fairway conditions and health and safety concerns—particularly the steep slope from the 5th tee.
At the 6th, the team has removed the capillary concrete from the bunker bankings. The left bunker has been reshaped, narrowed, and extended to improve playability and long-term performance. New bunker liners and astro-turf revetting slabs have now been installed. With the structural phase complete, the next steps include adding sand and finishing with fresh turf around the bunker edges.
